1999 to 2000: Editor, Medical Product Manufacturing News
While working for this medical product tabloid, I did the following:
*Worked with the art and production departments to dramatically change the look of the magazine
*Wrote case histories, product descriptions and a monthly column
*Supervised two editors
*Edited the copy of staff editors and contributors
*Planned and tracked the magazine's budget
*Attended press conferences and trade shows.
1997 to 1999: Freelance Writer
I wrote feature articles, news stories and other types of material. Article topics included computer hardware and software, the internet, automotive technology, medical technology, technology transfer and career issues. Clients included Product Design and Development and Design News magazines, as well as a public relations firm.
1995 to 1997: Technical Editor, Product Design and Development magazine
While on the staff of this tabloid magazine for product designers, I did the following:
*Wrote feature stories, case histories, news items and product descriptions. My features helped the magazine win four editorial awards.
*Edited the copy of staff editors and contributors
*Performed magazine production tasks
*Attended press conferences and trade shows
*Helped develop and maintain the magazine's web site.
1994 to 1995: Freelance Writer
I wrote feature and news stories for several publications, including Design News magazine and The Hartford Courant.
1991 to 1994: East Coast Editor, Design News magazine
While on the staff of this magazine for product designers, I did the following:
*Covered a seven-state territory, visiting companies and interviewing technical personnel about new products. I also attended press conferences and trade shows.
*Wrote more than 80 feature articles, case histories and news items about new technology. My features contributed to entries that won three editorial awards.
1988 to 1991: Freelance Writer
I wrote more than 100 articles for newspapers and magazines. These included:
*News stories about local government activities
*Features and news stories about a variety of general-interest topics
*Op-ed and opinion pieces, including one that appeared in The New York Times.
1986 to 1987: Structural Engineer, Rist-Frost Associates
While working for this consulting engineering firm, I designed concrete, steel and wood structures.
1983 to 1984: Mechanical Engineer, Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station
As a civilian employee of this naval unit, I provided engineering guidance for the repair and maintenance of ship systems.
